BPUSD Early Childhood Education Leads Head Start Advocacy at State Capitol

The Baldwin Park Unified School District’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program invited five members of the Policy Council Executive Board to participate in Head Start California's Advocacy Day at the state capitol.

ECE's goal is to reach every child from newborn through age four in our communities, offering them the skills and knowledge to succeed in school and fulfill their dreams. Early Childhood Education (ECE) proudly offers an array of programs for a foundation of learning through Early Head Start, Head Start, and Preschool.

The impactful trip commenced with a comprehensive training session, equipping participants with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively engage with legislators and convey the importance of Head Start initiatives. Discussions revolved around pertinent legislative matters and strategies for impactful advocacy.

As part of the advocacy efforts, representatives from ECE had the privilege of meeting with Assemblywoman Blanca E. Rubio at the Capitol Office. Assemblywoman Rubio, who holds a special connection to the Baldwin Park Unified School District, listened attentively to the stories and perspectives shared by parents and staff members present. The meeting served as a platform for passionate advocacy, as parents expressed their unwavering support for Head Start programs and emphasized the transformative impact these programs have on families within the community.

“This event provided an opportunity for parents and Head Start staff from across California to share their stories and help state legislators understand the impact of their actions on Head Start programs and the families they serve,” Director of ECE, Ricardo Riveras said.

The ECE program has served the community of Baldwin Park since the 1940's. Since then, the program has expanded into several communities including the cities of Bell, Cudahy, Maywood, and surrounding areas.

ECE is now enrolling for the 2024-25 school year, for more information, please visit: https://www.bpusd.net/apps/pages/ece .
